Biography

Paul Marron received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis, School of Law. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of California, Berkeley. He excelled at Cal with academic honors, and as an oarsman on the Varsity crew team.

Paul began his legal career as a Deputy Public Defender for Los Angeles County, and tried cases in Downtown Los Angeles, Compton and Long Beach. As a 5th year attorney, he was specially appointed to defend a capital murder case and avoided the death penalty for a client involved in 5 murders. Paul was recruited out of the Public Defender’s Office to work at Wyman Bautzer Kuchel & Silbert, a large and prominent entertainment and business Law Firm in Century City, where he was assigned to both criminal and civil cases. He founded Marron Lawyers in 1995 and has grown the Firm from a solo practice to a 13-attorney litigation and outside general counsel firm dedicated to excellence and achievement for clients. Mr. Marron has tried 30+ cases to jury verdict and 30+ to judges, administrative tribunals and arbitrators. For plaintiffs, he has secured multiple judgments after trial of over $1M. For defendants, he has secured complete defense verdicts on cases where opponents sought multi-million dollar judgments.

Paul’s career includes numerous wins in bet-the-company cases. Clients have described him as a “legal sharpshooter.” In one case where the plaintiff sought $5M, the plaintiff fired his lawyer while under Mr. Marron’s cross-examination, and “waited on the courthouse steps” to plead for settlement and dismissal. Recently, Mr. Marron led a trial team that secured a $1.4M+ judgment for a national franchisor, in a case filed against the State of California Employment Development Department. The CA EDD sought to reclassify “mom and pop” franchisees and the workers they hired as employees of the franchisor. A win for EDD would have involved millions in liabilities for the franchisor and forced the franchisor into dropping its national business model and re-classifying approximately 3500 franchisees and their workers as employees.

Judges, juries, court staff and opposing counsel describe Paul’s skill: Jury foreperson: “It was hard to rule for Mr. Marron’s client, but we listened to what Mr. Marron said about the jury instructions, and felt we had to follow what he said.” Other counsel: The jury “particularly liked the way Mr. Marron presented the case and his mannerism. They really liked him; they did not like defense counsel.” Court staff: “It was a true pleasure working with you and your team, and witnessing your expertise and character throughout. Awesome and excellent.” Judges: “One of the better tried cases and among the finest litigators I’ve had in court.” Mr. Marron and his trial team “were extraordinarily fine attorneys who were always prepared.”

Mr. Marron has represented a wide range of clients, from Fortune 1000 companies to small businesses. Clients have brought Mr. Marron, and the skilled trial team he leads, in to try cases across California, and in Idaho, Colorado and Tennessee, as well as during pre-trial litigation in Texas, Michigan, Arizona, Oregon, New York and Florida.

Mr. Marron is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, and has been repeatedly recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer. He is Martindale-Hubbell av rated (highest possible rating by the most prestigious national attorney ranking service, based on anonymous judge and peer review).
