CDA Rocked It Representing at ECA Last Week!
CDA had a solid presence and made some amazing inroads last week at the Express Carriers Association “2017 Shippers/Carriers Marketplace” in Dallas, Texas. Thanks to the commitment of Ian Finn (One Hour Delivery/Walnut Creek), JC Burnett (Loadchief, Courier Messenger/Santa Clarita) and Andrew Brady (King Courier/San Francisco) heading up the CDA booth, we were showcased to 500 courier companies and 50 vendors from across the nation. We got a ton of hot leads (which we’re following up on), generated interest from various companies in advertising on our new-and-improved website and some terrific ideas to build upon CDA’s success. We’re actually traveling to Texas and bringing business INTO California – how about that? Check out a few pictures below! If you know shippers, carriers or others interested in joining CDA, posting RFPs or learning more, let us know at [email protected]
CDA in the Capitol: Governor’s Tax & Fee Hike is a Perilous Road for Business
This past week, Governor Brown and Democratic leaders in the Legislature have been pushing a proposal to raise $52 billion over the next ten years to fund transportation repairs in our state. CDA’s Legislative Committee, charged with making decisions on legislation based on YOUR previous survey (including your strong support to hold the line on tax increases), voted to OPPOSE Senate Bill 1 (Beall), the bill used to push for these increases, and we sent our oppose letter to the legislature this week. The proposal includes:
- 12-ct per gallon (43%) increase in current gas excise taxes – up from current 18-cent base to 30 cents.
- Sales tax hike on diesel – would go up from current 5.75% to 9.75%
- Diesel excise tax increase – would go up 20 cents, from 16-cents to 36 centes per gallon.
- New annual vehicle fee that averages about $51bsed on value of vehicle
- $100 registration fee on emission free vehicles
CDA did support AB 496 (Fong), the Republican alternative that proposes to raise $5.6 billion per year from existing state funds, including $3 billion from sales tax collected on vehicle purchases that currently flows into the General Fund, $1.1 billion in truck weight fee revenue that now goes towards paying off transportation borrowing, and $550 million in vehicle insurance fee revenue that has been going into the General Fund.
We’re making our voice heard in the Capitol that new taxes and fees will steer CDA and all job creators down a terrible road and into a hole we’ll never crawl out of. Stay tuned – the fight continues.
SAVE THE DATE: CDA’s 2017 Day at the Capitol – May 24th!
CDA has a date for our 2017 Day at the Capitol–Wednesday, May 24 in Sacramento. Join us for a great day to help make sure our industry issues and concerns are heard by the Governor’s Office, Legislature and other decision makers. The action-packed day will include visits with your legislators (we will schedule for you), special guest speakers on issues affecting us, lunch and a closing networking reception. We have invited the Governor’s Secretary of Transportation. Expect more to come, but mark your calendars for now! We’ve attached a flyer – share with others. It will be loads of fun – and your Sacramento policymakers need to hear from YOU! If you would like to RSVP, or would like to be a sponsor contact [email protected]
